Day of Desserts
Completed: December 29, 2012
Technically this was never on the list but it was such an epic day of eating I just had to share. During my first trip to visit Anh during Christmas 2012, we only had 10 days to pack in a lot of eating, meeting Anh’s friends and family and trying to start our own holiday traditions. This meant that often times we were going out for lunch and dinner and sometimes even cramming in extra meals as snacks. This was one such day.
We started at Pony, which I’ve already blogged about here and is one of our favourites. We shared a few small plates and then skipped right to dessert as the menu at the time didn’t have any inspiring mains. Plus, there’s something very delightful about being able to say, “We’ll take one of each dessert, thank you!”
After a quick lunch, we went to Bathers Pavilion Restaurant at Balmoral. I had seen an epic dessert from them on Instagram and after checking it was still on their menu we headed out there. Unfortunately we must have caught them between the changeover from lunch to dinner service and so we were directed to have a seat at their Cafe which serves basic quick eats for beach goers and did not have the dessert we were looking for. We had a plea (very nicely!) to the server if we could possibly have some desserts off the other menu and they were so accommodating to allow us to have the incredible desserts.
They were and perhaps remain the best desserts we have ever eaten, and inspired many envious and inquiring looks as they came out of the kitchen towards us.

Decontructed Mango Cheesecake – Including a mango gel , passionfruit and mango fruit juice spheres, white chocolate cone and mango sorbet
Finally, we ended the day with a Chinese feast with Anh’s friends and shared a fried ice cream (not pictured).
Oooh those desserts look amazing. Definitely adding it to my next visit in Sydney. Where’s Balmoral, is that near the CBD?

Actually the pastry chef there has now moved over to the Shangri-La, which is right in The Rocks.
